Nominating Committee

Composition, Qualifications, and Responsibilities

Composition

The Nominating Committee is composed of the Senior Pastor, Chairman of the Management Team, and nine members of the Church at-large. The Church Administrator is the PLT representative for the committee.

Qualifications

Members of the Nominating Committee shall be exemplary in their conduct, discreet in judgment, of honest report, full of faith, and conscious that they shall set worthy examples of cooperation, love and loyalty for all members of the Church. They should be faithful at all Sunday services, unless hindered by reason of good conscience, so that they are aware of the faithfulness of those they consider for positions. They should be faithful and systematic tithers and fully cooperative with the Senior Pastor, the PLT, and the Church. They must also be able to keep in confidence those things discussed about members as they are considered and evaluated for leadership.

Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the Nominating Committee to present a slate of nominees at the annual Church conference in October for the Management Team, the Equipping Ministry Team, and the Deacon Ministry Team.

Management Team- The Management Team (MT) is the Board of Directors of the Church. It is composed of twelve members of the Church. They provide accountability for the Senior Pastor, ensure the financial integrity of the Church, develop and adopt policies relating to the operation of the Church, supervise personnel matters of the Church, and, as the Board of Directors, handle all corporate affairs and business matters involving the Church. These responsibilities are administered through the Finance subcommittee, Policy and Legal Issues subcommittee, and Personnel subcommittee, each comprised of approximately one-third (a) of the Management Team members.
Equipping Ministry Team-  The Equipping Ministry Team (EMT) is made up of nine members of the Church. It is their task to identify, recruit, equip, lead, and deploy others to be involved in various ministries of the Church, with no time placed on their involvement.
Deacon Ministry Team- The Deacon Ministry Team (DMT) consists of male members of the Church. The number of nominees needed annually to function effectively in its various ministries shall be determined by the DMT.  The DMT serves the Church through pastoral support, Church ordinance administration, benevolence ministry, conflict resolution, and other ministries that are consistent with the DMT calling.

Time Line of Responsibilities

Nominees for the Nominating Committee are elected in October at the annual Church Conference. The Chairman of the Nominating Committee is appointed by the Management Team. An orientation meeting is held in early November.

The Nominating Committee begins the selection phase of its work in early February by asking Church members to recommend names for service on the Management Team, Equipping Ministry Team, and the Deacon Ministry Team. After sufficient time has been given for the Church to recommend names, the Nominating Committee proposes additional names, submits all potential nominees to the PLT for review, and begins evaluations.

After nominees have been chosen and ranked, the contact phase begins in early March. When a list of nominees is decided upon for each ministry team, the Nominating Committee will contact the nominees to see if they will consider service on the team for which they are nominated. If the answer is affirmative, the appropriate team handbook is mailed to them and a date is set for a personal visit. During the visit, the qualifications and responsibilities of the team to which they are nominated will be discussed and any questions answered.

If the nominee meets the qualifications and accepts the nomination, the information gathering phase begins. To make sure the membership knows for whom they are voting at the annual Church conference, a brochure providing information about every nominee on each team is distributed. The Church Bylaws require this to be made available at least two weeks prior to elections at the annual Church conference in October.

To prepare this brochure, each nominee is asked to submit a brief biography and Christian testimony, and have their photo taken. When everything is turned in for each nominee, the work of the Nominating Committee is completed for that year. Normally, this should be done by late May.

Other Requirements

Beyond these biblical requirements, the members of the Nominating Committee of NBC believe that our Lord Jesus Christ, and every member of this Church, may expect each member of the Nominating Committee to serve as a model in the following areas by:

  • Being a faithful and systematic tither, knowing that the tithe is the minimum requirement that should be brought to the local storehouse (church) for the Lord’s work.
  • Being evangelistic and missionary in spirit, deeply interested in the salvation of people at home and abroad (see Acts 8).
  • Being fully cooperative with the Senior Pastor, PLT, and the Church.
  • Refraining from destructive criticism and settling all differences in a quiet and Christian manner.
  • Striving for unity among members of the Nominating Committee.  For example, once a decision has been made at a meeting, regardless of how much internal debate and discussion transpire, they should emerge in one accord.
  • Being a model for interaction and fellowship with others by greeting people in the lobby and worship center before and after each service.  They should be especially sensitive to introduce themselves to visitors and those members with whom they are unfamiliar.
